1) Sarah Burton/Davis?, Nov. 11, 1841 in Clermont Co., OH, she died in 1854. There is a marriage license in Ohio between Nathaniel Behymer & Sarah Burton. The biographical sketch says she was the daughter of Reason Davis. This may have been a second marriage for her.

Nathaniel Behymer, merchant, lumber deal and manufacturer of lumber, plow and wagon timber; postoffice, Mill Shoals; is the first child of John and Jane (Meeker) Behymer, natives of Virginia and New Jersey respectively. They moved to Ohio with their parents, married and moved to Indiana, and then to Missouri, thence to Illinois, where they died. Nathaniel was born in Ohio, June 29, 1822; he was educated in Ohio, and has always followed lumbering, contracting, etc. He came to Illinois in 1859, and located at Noble, Richland County, where he lived twelve years; thence moved to Flora, Clay County, and remained four years; thence to Mill Shoals, and now owns, in company with his two sons, a large general store well filled with goods, a saw-mill, a lumber manufactory establishment, consisting of band and circular saws, planes, etc., and a farm of 300 acres on section 10 and 28, and considerable village property. He is the solid man of this part of the county. In 1843 [sic] he married Sarah, daughter of Reason and Eliza Davis, natives of Ohio. By this union there were five children - Eliza Jane born June 25, 1844, wife of John Phillips, of Wayne County, Ill.; Mary Ann born April 16, 1846, wife of William Taylor of Richland County, Ill.; John, born May 20, 1848, married; William born April 16, 1850, married; Henrietta born Nov. 2, 1853, wife of Thomas Travis; she was the widow of George McClure. Mrs. Behymer died in 1854, and in September 1854 he married Nancy, daughter of George and Sency (Cathey) Gordon, natives of South Carolina; they died in Indiana. She was born in Dec. 21, 1828. By this union there were five children, three living - Sarah Ellen, born July 22, 1855; Robert A. born Nov. 18, 1857; CHarlotte M. June 21, 1859 (deceased); Charlie K. April 17, 1861 (deceased); George C. born Nov. 25, 1865. Mrs. Behymer died Dec. 24, 1865. Mr. Behymer married in March, 1866, Mary, daughter of John and (--?--) Brooks, natives of Virginia. They died in Cincinnati, O[hio]. This union was blessed with two children, both dead. Mrs. Behymer died April 21, 1870. Mr. Behymer married, Sept. 1, 1871, Louisa, daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Evans, natives of North Carolina. They died in Illinois. She was the widow of Jonas Gill, by whom she had two children, one living - Harry, born Oct. 22, 1866; Mary E. is dead. By the last marriage there are six children, three living - Frank, born Sept. 8, 1875; Nellie, born Jan. 13, 1879, Claud born Oct. 15, 1881. Mr. Behymer is a member of the A.F.&A.M. fraternity [Ancient Free & Accepted Masons]. He votes the Republican ticket, and is a Universalist in principle. He is a very strong advocate of temperance. 1894, November 1 - Nathaniel wrote his will:
Be it remembered that I, Nathaniel Behymer of White County, Illinois, being of lawful age and sound and disposing mind do make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made.
1st I desire the payment of any and all of my just debts to be made by my executors hereinafter named including also the payment for a plain monument.
2nd. I having heretofore provided for the heirs of my son John Behymer (deceased) and Robert A. Behymer also my son, I direct that they receive no further benefit from my estate whatever.
3rd. I give to my son, William Behymer the sum of One hundred Dollars, which is to be his full share of my estate.
4th. I give to my daughters Eliza J. Phillips, Mary A. Taylor and Nettie Travis, the sum of Two hundred Dollars each.
5th. I give devise and bequeath to Robert A. Behymer in trust however, for his sister Ellen Behymer The sum of six hundred Dollars ($600) to be held by him and used for her care and support during her life, but in case there shall remain in the hands of said trustee at the death of the said Ellen Behymer any portion of said sum so bequeathed to him he shall return the same to my executors to be paid by them to those named herein who are to receive the residue of my estate.
6th. I devise and bequeath to my wife Louisa Behymer all of my household furniture, milk cows, horse, harness and carriage, owned and in use by me at my death and I also bequeath to her in trust for her for her own use and trust of her three children Nellie, Claude and Grace Behymer to be given and distributed to them as she may see fit my entire stock of goods and all fixtures that may remain at my death in store-house and warehouse at Mill Shoals, Illinois. The bequest in this sixth clause of my will is intended to give to our three children the property herein described in equal proportions whether distributed by my wife or the surviving executors after her death, she to be the sole judge of when she shall dispose of and divide the same between them, and I also bequeath to her the outstanding open accounts that may remain at my death for goods sold out of said store. Nevertheless I require that out of the proceeds of such accounts the bills due in the cities for goods shall be paid. It is my intention that my wife may remain in business managing and controlling said stock of goods for such period of time as shall appear best to her and the interest of our children herein named.
I herein direct that my executors hereinafter named do as soon as convenient dispose of all my real estate either at private or public sale as may seem to them best and I do hereby authorize, direct and empower them or the survivor of them to make good and sufficient deed or deeds to any and all of my real estate left by me at my death wherever situated it being my intention to relieve the same of dower of my wife Louisa by the bequest herein above made to her. I also direct that all outstanding notes including proceeds of lands be collected by my executors and that they first pay my debts and expenses and second: all bequests herein made that are to be paid in money and that the remainder if any at my death and after the payments aforesaid shall be paid to the following persons by my executors in equal proportions: Louisa Behymer, Ellen Behymer, Claude Behymer, Grace Behymer, Eliza J. Phillips, Mary A. Taylor and Nettie Travis.
Finally having full faith and confidence in the integrity of Harry A. Gill and Louisa Behymer, I hereby appoint them or the survivor of them as my executor of this my last will and testament.

1895 - April 23 - Nathaniel added a codicil to his will:
Codicil No. 1 - I Nathaniel Behymer being of sound and disposing mind do now add the following codicil to my last will and Testament as written within and herein ---- I give devise and bequeath to George Behymer my son one hundred Dollars to be paid to him by my executors in my will named. Witness my hand this April 23" 1895. N. Behymer.

State of Illinois, White County SS. In the White County Court. In Probate Nov. Term, A.D. 1896. On Wednesday the 25th day of November in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Ninety-Six present: The Hos. James C. Pearce, Judge. J. R. Kuykendall Clerk, And John B. Hutchens Sheriff.
In the Matter of the Estate of Nathaniel Behymer Deceased. This day comes Harry A. Gill and makes due proof to the satisfaction of the Court of the death of the said Nathaniel Behymer late of said County of White which proof is ordered by the Court to be entered of record. . . .
The State of Illinois, White County SS - Proof of Death:
Harry A. Gill being duly sworn deposeth and saith that Nathaniel Behymer late of the town of Mill Shoals in the County of White and State aforesaid departed this life at Mill Shoals in the said County, on or about the 9th day of November A.D. 1896 and that he died leaving a last will and testament to the best of his knowledge and belief. Harry A. Gill. Subscribed and sworn to before me this 25th day of November A.D. 1896, James C. Pearce, County Judge.

In the County Court of said County. In Probate November Term, A.D. 1896. Personally appeared in open Court L.E. Sunderland and A.M. Elliott subscribing witnesses to the annexed Instrument of writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of Nathaniel Behymer's late of said County, deceased, who being duly sworn according to law do depose and say each for himself that he was present and saw the said Nathaniel Behymer and that they believe that the said testator was of sound mind and memory, of lawful age, and under no constraint when he signed said will. I do solemnly swear that this writing contains the true last will and testament of the within named Nathaniel Behymer deceased as far as I know or believe and that I will well and truly execute the same by paying first the debts and then the legacies mentioned therein so far as his goods and chattels will thereunto extend, and the law charge me; and that I will make a true and perfect inventory of all such goods and chattels, rights and credits, as may come to my hands or knowledge, belonging to the estate of said deceased, and render a fair and just account of my executorship, when thereunto required by law, to the best of my knowledge and abilities and abilities, so help me God.
